Welcome to the next generation of modern combat.  While an increasing amount of insecurity is being ushered into the mind by erratic dictators with outlandish rhetoric and unveiled threats, technology is providing a possible cure to our fears over chemical agents.  The HAPSITE Viper, capable of providing immediate test results on chemical agents, salvages critical time that may be the decisive factor between life and death for a soldier in theater.  Typically mounted on reconnaissance vehicles, the Viper can be dismounted and used as a portable detector where vehicles cannot access.  This device uses gas chromatograph/mass spectrometer technology through a surface sampler to allow for accurate results while requiring minimal direct exposure to the agent.  The Viper is capable of detecting virtually any potential chemical compound and is equipped with a storage box should an unknown substance come into question.  This allows for the substance to securely be transferred to a lab for more vigorous testing.  The HAPSITE Viper is the next generation of chemical warfare defense that the world has been waiting for.  Well, with the arrival of Inficon’s new device, that wait is finally over.
